The Last Words Meme

This is it. The final curtain. You're at the end of your life, and there's someone here you really, really need to say something to before you die. 


(TRIGGER WARNING. This meme deals heavy with death and also possibly with strong violence or with suicide/depression. If you are not comfortable reading about that, please PLEASE do not proceed further.)



HOW IT WORKS:
Getting your numbers from RNG (or pick your own), the first character to post rolls for their cause of death and how long they have left to live. They then post to the meme with their name, canon and the results of their roll. (For example: "Jane Doe | That One Series | 1 2" would mean Jane Doe from That One Series died of accidental causes and has a few hours left to live.) 

Responding characters then roll for the relationship between the two of you. Optionally responding characters can also share your cause of death/time left to live or roll for their own, but that's not required. A living character caring for (or horribly mutilating) a dying one is fine, too.

Tell the person what you need to tell them before you bite it. 

As usual, all meme's are open to interpretation. If you want to play an AU immortal, yay. If you want to be sucked into another dimension or shoved into a tiny glass box, also fine. YOUR PLAY, NOT MINE.



CAUSE OF DEATH

1 - Accidental. Nobody meant for this to happen, but it doesn't matter now. Due to negligance, arrogance or just plain bad luck, you've become gravely ill or injured and are now in your last moments. This covers all kinds of accidental deaths--strangulation, drowning, car accidents, unintentional beheadings, whatever you can think of. 

2 - Murder. Somebody really didn't like you. Enough to kill you, it seems. You're now dead by someone else's hand. (Maybe even the person replying to you?) As with accidental death, this covers all types of intentional, malicious murder, regardless of method--so poisoning, stabbing, shooting, etc., all work here. Same with all the below options: any possible variation you can think of on it will work!

3 - Suicide. There is no hope for you, and no way out. You've reached the absolute bottom pits of despair, and the only recourse you have is to take your own life. Someone shows up to stop you... but they're too late to help you now.

4 - Terminal illness. You have cancer, or tuberculosis, or cholera back when people got cholera. The doctors have done everything they could and it wasn't enough. The only thing to do now is give your loved ones the bad news.

5 - Starvation. So thirsty. So hungry. Maybe you've been traveling in the desert for hours, or maybe you're just really poor. Whatever the reason, it doesn't matter, because you're slowly wasting away until you're nothing but skin and bones.

6 - Death in battle. You've died a hero's death, and gone out in a blaze of glory. Or maybe you were a coward who got shot for deserting? Either way, you're now a casualty of war. Will you be honored with a parade or scorned as a traitor to your country? 

7 - Natural causes. You've lived a long, happy life, and now your story is at an end. In a warm bed, surrounded by your family and friends, you peacefully drift off. Just make sure that you've made a will somewhere, or at least use your deathbed to set the record straight. Otherwise, who knows what kind of squabbles might errupt after you leave this world?


TIME LEFT

1 - A few minutes. You're fading fast and you don't have much, well, any time left. Better tell the person with you that you love -- or despise -- them with your last breath, because you'll never have the chance otherwise. 

2 - A few hours. You haven't got much time left. Is there someone you still need to kill? To kiss? Better do it quick. (Note: last kisses not recommended for people dying of highly contagious illnesses.)

3 - A few days. The doctors have given you the news, and it's not very good. You've only got a couple days left to live. You should start trying to make peace with people and saying your final goodbyes with the days you have left.

4 - A few weeks. Take that vacation you've always wanted to go on but never had the chance to. Go do that thing you've never thought you'd be any good at. You've got only weeks left to live. Don't waste them. 

5 - A few months. While you aren't quite on death's doorstep yet, your lifespan has still dwindled considerably from what you probably thought it would be. How are you going to spend your last few months on Earth? Making the world a better place and telling your family you love them? Or raising as much hell as possible?

They will. [ I mean let's be real here. ] Maybe not for awhile, but there's no way it won't come up eventually. Hopefully not 'til she's old enough to deal with it.

[ worrying his lip. ] They might just think, she's yours.. But I guess, that would be even worse...

If it comes down to it, I'll set 'em straight myself. Dave would've been proud of her no matter what the fuckin' status quo is.

[uncertainty]

Yeah.

[ She'll never fit in. She might grow into her looks but trolls will still want to cull her and humans will fear her and he worries for the child he's brought into this world. But she's all that's left of Dave and he hopes she inherited his tenacity. ]

[turntables]

[ He's fully prepared for another lifetime of cracking the skulls of people who pick on his misfit kids. He's getting up there in age (nearly 60, christ) but he still functions like a goddamn teenager. Not enough arthritis in his hands yet to stop him from laying a few more smackdowns. ]

Just love her while you can, kid.

[ She'll be an orphan before she's even in school. Tavros nods mutely. ]

[ giving his shoulder a squeeze and then heading off to go do Bro Things. like pester his baby mama and whatnot. ]

[uncertainty]

[ bro srsly.

tavros putters around and does a little more housework before taking nap 2.0 of the day. ]

[turntables]

[ Bro spends basically every day playing with the baby, teaching the baby things far beyond the capacity of her dumb baby brain, piling toys and clothes on the baby and using the baby as his own personal therapist, talking to her for hours on end about his day and what he-said-she-said bullshit he had to put up with. The baby is basically his favorite thing on the planet next to his other kids, Cal, and a particularly frosty beer every now and then, and it shows. He doesn't have much of a life, anyway; he's always been stalwartly committed to the omnipresent guardian role and that will probably never change.

She's also all there really is left of Dave, which is kind of absurd, because there are remnants of Dave everywhere. His movies, his music, he even wrote a book once (SBaHJ: THE MOIVE: THE NOVLE) and of course all the pictures and crap from his house all over the apartment. Bro even took in Dave's pet seahorse (aptly named "HORSEA") from the aquarium he'd had. But his kid is something entirely different. ]

[uncertainty]

[ Tavros lets him. He doesn't fuss or struggle to play a bigger role in her life, he's not her lusus - that's Bro. Bro can be there with her long after he's gone, it's better for her to be more attached to him. ]

[turntables]

[ Tavros doesn't get out of it that easily. He's Mama, no matter what that's always back to where she goes. He piles baby and toys in his lap and goes to bug people on the phone.

(Except he's still talking about the baby even when she's with mommy.) ]

[uncertainty]

[ Jeez, bro.

Time passes pretty quick. She turns one and a paparazzo catches a snapshot of them leaving a doctor's appointment. There's no question who she is, after all. Suddenly their quite life becomes a distant memory, everyone wants a picture of her, of him, stories are coming out about her conception - terrible ones, and Tavros can do nothing to stop it. ]

[turntables]

[ Bro initially responds with aggressive avoidance and chasing off anyone in their way. But as the stories get more warped he doesn't have any choice but to set them straight. He won't have any fucking little dickwads tarnishing his kid's memory.

He gives them the plain story and it's considerably less exciting and scandalous than the made-up ones. People still have plenty to say about an unnatural hybrid and Dave being with a troll and all sorts of other things but the way he spins it makes it sound tragic, and some people go for that. A lot of people go for that.

The attention doesn't really stop, but at the very least, people start blubbering about the truth (with some exaggerations from the sensationalist tabloids that get paid to lie constantly), which is all he can really ask for. ]

[uncertainty]

[ Tavros stops going out in fear of being mobbed, leaving it to Bro to do all the running around and supplying her with all she needs. Her hair darkens to a dirty-blonde and her skin gains a little human pigment, but she still stands out.

She'll never be normal. He wouldn't go so far as to call her unnatural but she is unusual.

She starts walking a little earlier than most children her age and Tavros catches it on film. ]

[ Bro sends that video to the whole family pretty much right away. Mom, her kids, Dirk, everybody. check this shit out you guys shes fuckin walking already. stinkers not even barely eatin no solid food and shes already running around. jesus christ.

His little pride and joy. She gets her exercise when Bro ties a lollipop to a string and puts it in his back pocket, strolling around the house with the kid at his heels, reaching excitedly. ]

[uncertainty]

[ She trips and starts crying. Mama scoops her up and grabs the lollipop from bro, offering it out to her and kissing the booboos better.

He gets a sticky lolipop in his shaggy mohawk for his trouble. ]

[turntables]

[ You tried, Tavros. He knows better than to give a kid anything without making them work for it. And probably get dinged up in the process. ]

You gonna need some help with that?

[uncertainty]

No. I've got it. [ He needed a haircut anyway. She squirms and giggles. ]

Coulda warned you about that.

[uncertainty]

It's supper time, anyway.

Oh, sweet. [ Pulling open a kitchen drawer. ] I got her a new bib to try on.
